We've provided answers below to a number of common questions regarding LED Lighting.
Q: What is LED?
A: LED stands for Light-Emitting Diode, which is a solid-state electronic device containing chemical compounds that emit visible light when an electric current passes through them. Unlike incandescent lamps, LEDs have no filaments that can burn out or fail.
Q: Why switch to LED lights?
A: Because LED lights are not only more efficient than traditional lighting, they last longer (up to 50,000 hours), emit no infrared or ultraviolet radiation, turn on instantly, and are more durable. LED lights use much less electricity than traditional lighting – up to 90% less than incandescent lighting and up to 40% less than fluorescent lighting. Unlike fluorescent lights, LED lights contain no toxic substances such as mercury or lead, and most comply with RoHS standards. LED lights produce significantly less heat than traditional lighting resulting in reduced fire risk and air-conditioning cost savings.
Q: How great are the energy savings?
A: Did you know electric lighting burns 25% of the average home energy budget!
LED (Light Emitting Diodes) have revolutionised energy-efficient lighting using on average 20% (or less!) of the energy required to power a traditional filament or energy saving lamp but offering a comparable or better light output.
Q: Do LED have a greater lifespan?
A: Yes, LEDENET LIGHT products should last more than 50,000 hours with very small reductions in light output over their lifetime. That is over 15 years in an average household (based on 8 hours usage per day) and is 25 times longer than typical incandescent light bulbs! Additionally, with the exceptionally low failure rate, maintenance is virtually eliminated! LED lighting is solid-state and does not have a filament and so is virtually indestructible.
Q: Are they really frindly?
A: YES! LEDENET LIGHT products are mercury free unlike compact fluorescent lamps which need careful disposal. Typically, LEDENET products are made from materials such as glass, steel and aluminium so are almost fully recyclable at the end of their lives.
Q: I’ve seen LED lighting in the shops and their light colour can appear strang. Is this typical?
A: No. LED lighting is now available in many different “colour temeratures” (Kelvin) including warm white (around 3000k) which is mainly associated with the quality of light we have all become used to with low voltage halogen. Warmer and cooler colour temperatures are also available. It may just be that your local supplier is behind the times!
Q: Are they cost effective?
A: One of the common concerns with LED is the higher general purchase price. However, the cost of changing to LEDENET LIGHT is soon recouped over time such are the enormous energy savings. Further, LEDENET products ensure compliance with new building regulations and the energy saving requirements.
Q: Can I run LEDENET light using my solar/wind power?
A: Absolutely! Due to the extremely low power requirements, LEDENET lights are very suitable for use with solar panel or wind power generators. If you wish to run on 12 Volt or 24 Volt please speak with us and we will provide the solution.
Q: What’s a PSU and do I need one?
A: Simply put, PSU stands for Power Supply Unit - a transformer in laymans' terms. All LED's need either constant voltage or constant current at very low voltages.
Q: Can I fix my LEDs to dimmer switches?
A: Yes, but you will require a dimmable PSU and an appropriate dimmer control usually 'trailing edge' type. This doesn't apply to all LED products so you should contact us to check.
Q: What is RGB?
A: RGB means Red, Green, Blue and is a generic term for LEDs that are able to create a range of colours by mixing these colours just like an LED television does. LEDENET has your solution, from a simple off the shelf remote controller to advanced, fully customisable computer control systems.
Q: What are the benefits of LED lighting compared with traditional lighting?
A: Long operating life – usually more than 50,000 hours.
Low power consumption – around 60% to 90% more efficient than incandescent lighting and 20% to 40% more efficient than fluorescent lighting.
Environmentally friendly – contain no toxic materials such as lead or mercury, and made from recyclable metals such as aluminium and copper.
Low heat output – reduced fire risk and air-conditioning cost savings.
Reduced maintenance – need to be replaced less often.
No infrared (heat) or ultraviolet radiation – will not damage artworks and artefacts.
Durable – much more resistant to shock and vibration.
Instant on – need no time to ‘warm up’, unlike fluorescent lights.
Flicker free – unlike fluorescent lights.
Q: Do you provide warranties for your products?
A: Yes, we provide warranties for all products.
Q: How good is the light quality of LED lighting?
A: LED lights offer exceptional light quality. The latest advancements in LED technology mean that LED lighting can reproduce a wide range of white colours from around 2700K (Warm White) to 6500K (Cool White) as well as producing vivid reds, greens, and blues for accent lighting applications.
We are committed to the provision of the highest quality of both products and service.
Q: When can I expect delivery of my order?
A: The delivery time is different from the order. We aim to ship your order 5-15 working day from receipt of payment. We will notify you of any shortages or delays to your order.
We would welcome any suggestions as to how we could improve any of our products or how they are delivered.
